Midwifery

John Sykes Foundation are proud to have facilitated a valuable connection between local charity Aspire2 and the Midwifery Department at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, resulting in a unique educational session for Year 5 pupils at Geoffrey Field Junior School.

As part of a week-long event running in May, Aspire2, who are a long-standing community partner of our Foundation and focused on supporting young people in the Whitley area, reached out to us in the hope of inspiring children to consider future careers in healthcare. Several pupils had already expressed an interest in midwifery, prompting Aspire2 to seek a real-life insight into the profession.

A practicing midwife from the Royal Berkshire Hospital attended the event and spoke with the students, aged 9-10 years old. The session offered an engaging overview of the midwife’s training journey, day-to-day responsibilities, and the diverse specialities within the field, tailored to the age and interests of the pupils.
